Every Saturday, a group of dedicated, working actors gather at the Hudson Guild Theater in Hollywood to hone and nurture their acting/performing skills. A broad range of topics are thoroughly discussed;

. de-mystifying the audition,
. how to face the actor's marketplace,
. operating under pressure
. the 'way in' to a character
. plus practical (and inspirational) insights into a successful career.

At the top of the class, Raphael gives a full lecture about the actor's journey, surviving in this business, overcoming the obstacles, and getting the job. His generous lecture invites you to think - think about your own journey as an artist, your own goals, issues, challenges and joys as an actor. Open discussion is encouraged, students share their opinions too, and the Master Class begins.

After the lecture, scene studies and monologues dominate the theater as the actors share their work; the freedom to explore new material, get genuine feedback from fellow actors and wind up with useful, practical and concise notes from Raphael.

The Lab is a creative, inspirational space. The room is all working actors - many folks have had series, are on series’ now, working in features or producing their own material.  Many folks are from NYC, many from shows on Broadway, developing their work here in Los Angeles. Some students come from L.A., with more experience in film and TV. Either way, The Master Class is their place to reach new depths of authentic performance.

"I have been walking in and out of casting rooms for decades and still audition every day. I have honed a clear and specific approach to find your way in the extraordinarily complex exchange known as 'the audition.'

With all of a minute and thirty seconds (in most cases) to make an impression and get the job (or pave the way for the next opportunity), you, the actor, want to bring out your best and not get in our own way. It is surprisingly difficult to do.

No teacher can promise work, but I can without a doubt, share with you decades of wisdom, laughs, ideas and tactics having walked in and out of audition rooms as well as working in front of cameras for over 40 years. This Lab is a valuable, authentic and enriching place for working actors to better understand themselves." - Raphael Sbarge
